Ditto!!!! The doctors don’t have a clue. My mouth burning symptoms starts with extreme dry mouth the day before then the corners of my mouth and my lips become noticeably red and almost chapped, they eventually dry out so bad burning and even itching until they crust over before starting to heal. After a day or two eventually the inside my mouth and tip of my tongue starts to burn as well. It generally takes several weeks for this condition to clear up. I begin to apply different types of medications began (perhaps coincidentally) after my Gynecologist prescribed Actonel, a prescription to aid in the prevention of bone degeneration (Spring of 2002). I took it for about 3 months when I started having other side affects related to cologne problems. I went to three of my doctors beginning with the gynecologist who had prescribed the medication who was clueless about the mouth situation. Next I tried my doctor of internal medicine who recommended a test for vitamin B deficiency, which came back normal; although I did increase my vitamin B intake upon the advice of a friend in nursing, but the problem still persisted. Next, I went to my gastroenterologist. It was this visit that I thought helped my mouth with a prescription of Prevacid. As my colon began to feel better my mouth also began to clear up. I can’t say for sure if the two problems were related. During this first period of healing I had started a regular regimen of B & B12 vitamins. Since the first episode I have experienced this ailment at least 5 times occurring several months apart. These past few weeks I have had perhaps the worst occurrence of this unidentified ailment. Because I have recently suffered a particular stressful situation I feel in retrospect that stress has perhaps played a significant role in the occurrence of “burning mouth syndrome”. I have used a topical ointment around the outside of my lips prescribed to me years ago for mild eczema but I suspect this wasn’t very wise since this is after all “burning mouth syndrome”…mouth being the key word and not a place to by using this steroid prescription product! I will try the two remedies I read about from others; Tee Tree Oil and the vitamin E capsules as well.
