This is going to sound very odd, but when I get them I soak a cotton ball in water, squeaze it out and place it between or under my tongue where the sore is. I even sleep with it in my mouth. Because my tongue does not rub against my teeth, it feels better. For some reason the sores seem to heal quicker that way. Sometimes I use cotton during the day, too. Nobody usually even can tell it's there. I don't kinow why I started doing that, but I had a very painful episode in 1998, and instinct just led me to do it.
