Hi Jeanette, How are you? I too have been on 40mg of paxil daily and i have been on paxil for well over 10 years. It has helped my panic attacks a great deal but lately i have been extremely depressed and crying for no reason, tired all the time, and not wanting to leave my home. So my doctor just put me on Wellbutrin SR, which is the extended release. I did not have to cut my paxil down. I started the wellbutrin at 100mg, but it was not enough, so I am now taking 300mg of Wellbutrin and 40mg of paxil a day. Wellbutrin and Paxil work in different ways and they are commonly taken together. Wellbutrin counteracts alot of the side effects of the paxil. Wellbutrin when taken with paxil helps you feel more awake, more energy, brings back your sex drive, and they have many more positive effects together. You would want to be on the extended release of wellbutrin because you want it to last you throughout each day. I take 150mg of wellbutrin in the morning, 150mg again about 6 hours later. then i take my paxil at bedtime. I am just now thinking of stopping my paxil, but you have got to stop paxil VERY gradually. So i am now taking 30mg at bedtime, and in a few weeks i will start taking 25mg of paxil at bedtime, and work down from there. You should NEVER stop paxil suddenly! Continue taking the 40mg per day for the first couple weeks you are on wellbutrin SR, even a month, and then cut down but 5mg of paxil but do that every couple weeks so you dont have bad withdrawels. Yes, Paxil DOES give you major withdrawel symptoms.Believe me when i say that, I KNOW this first hand! Just be really gradual when you decide to go off paxil and you will be fine.
